how did my experiment go.

All my examinees have now completed the experiment i have recorded all the results (previous post)
as you can see there really wasn't much of a difference between the two males had 2 min less that the female time. I think that really it comes down to the type of activity that you are doing. If i had maybe done more physical tasks like cleaning while answering the phone and helping out someone with homework the result may have been more evident and there would have been more of a difference.
i will explain this further in my end report.

Results

Total for men= 25min

Total for women=27min

Hypothesis

after doing quite a bit of research on this topic i have discovered that there are many different views on the subject. I have read things from a university experimentation website to home blogging done by a busy working mum, I have read things that say that it's better to be worse at multitasking than better at it due to it decreasing your memory ability and distracting you from completing the task to the best of your abilities I have also read that there is no actual significant difference between male and female that can really state that women are better than men at multitasking.
I'm hoping that in my experiment i will put it to rest at least in my own mind, which gender can multitask better than the other.
My theory-
I believe that in the most case women will be better suited to conducting numerous things at once as we have grown up this way, women are in many ways the icon that runs the family the mother keeps it going, she organises the kids and dinner and shopping and looks after the sick kids while maybe having a job to go to at the same time!
It just doesn't start when women begin their own family but in childhood and teenage years, especially when they have more complex issues than male teens do to deal with. Girls my age often have to worry and do things like perfecting there appearance to fit in with what they think is perfect and will blend in with everyone else's, they have to mix in social life with school work and it's a known fact that girls talk WAY more than boys. Socialising with friends and keeping up to date with the latest ins and out of things while mixing in family commitments which maybe even includes looking after younger family members or cooking dinner on some nights having to deal with life at home and having to deal with sport, a part time job and boys! is a lot to multitask!
Yes i know i am a girl which means i have a greater outlook on myself than i do boys but at the moments i am going to lean more towards the girls being better at multitasking, it's just what we do. We handle things all at once and for the most part i think we get it done otherwise i seriously would not be writing this blog.

men VS women!

Professor Keith Laws at the University's School of Psychology
conducted a experiment to see if male or female where better at multitasking. The experiment was conducted with both male and female having to completing a simple maths and map reading task in this area they both did average but the women were still able to handle them both quickly at one time unlike the males. One of the main tasks was how would you go about finding a key that was lost in a field.
Both genders were given a sheet of paper with the image of the field the key was lost in, they then had to plan how they would go about finding the key. It was proven that 70% of women completed this task with a greater strategic skill on how to find the missing key than the men did.
This surprised the professor as there was much debate that in fact men where smarter there for they could work more diligently whilst multitasking this was although false in this experiment..

They also stated that women are able to reflect on a problem whilst still having to juggle other activities an commitments.

Decided!

MAGENTA'S EXPERIMENT

Description:
This experiment is to determine which gender is better at multi-tasking, and if their age effects the results.
In order to conduct my experiment I will be testing four adults all around the age of 50, they will all need to complete the following: a simple math’s test where they will have to place their answers into a crossword then at any time whilst completing the maths test in this time i will test their ability to manage different things by asking them to find a certain location on a map that i will print out to show them, the location will be different for each person, at any time whilst they are completing this they will also receive a phone call which they will have the choice to answer and partake in a short conversation whilst still trying to either find the location and complete the maths test. While all this is happening i will also be playing the radio or tv.
the second time i conduct the experiment on them they will have to copy by hand a paragraph of writing and the phone will ring twice instead of once they have the choice to answer or not, also they will have to find another location on the map.
The reason for my doing the second test differently is to make the test fair for those who are not mathematical. they must try to this in the best time possible. I will also be adding a younger male and female in their early 20’s to also complete the same task, this is to distinguish if age effects the time taken to complete these activities and if they are better suited to multitasking.
All together I will have:
  • 2 men in their 50’s
  • 1 man in his 20’s
  • 2 women, aged  50.
  • 1 woman in her 20’s

I will conduct this experiment twice with a  location test.
I will record the results and then average them to see which gender is the winner.

deciding...

I'm actually not completely sure on what experiment i will be doing some of them could be

1) gender differences like quickness or multi-tasking....i researched some like that.

I'm thinking more the first one!
